Fireflies
Fireflies in a bottle, giving off a cold glow
A museum in my heart, with paintings of our lives
Brown hair tumbling as you walk away
Tooth by tooth it's coming loose, and when it's out it's gone
Fireflies are burning cold, fireflies burn cold
I was looking for a new perspective, a way to understand what went wrong
You're so beautiful, I'm lost & dazed
Fireflies in a bottle, giving off a cold glow
Poison seeds, spots of color, rayon hips, & red lips
4 chairs, 5 people, you can't get there from here
You are the blade, I am the saw, ripping lines of love
Tooth by tooth it's coming loose, and when it's out it's gone
Fireflies burning cold, fireflies burn cold

Skeleton Women
20 miles offshore, Calm seas, bait my hock & cast it out
I feel a tug, a big, big tug
Fished up a skeleton from the bottom of the sea
I fished up a skeleton
Fear overcame me, Sailed for the shore,
but that Skeleton was right behind
Ran to my house like a man on fire, I ran to my house
When I closed the door the skeleton was inside
tangled up in my fishing line
Looking at those white bones lying on the floor
My fear turned to sorrow
I dreamed of a time when I was a boy
Watching the leaves of the eucalyptus trees
Turning into butterflies before my eyes
Orange wings dazzling in the blue sky
In the morning when I woke up instead of bones
In the morning when I woke up, I found a women by my side
I fell in love with a skeleton from the sea
And that skeleton women fell in love with me
Now we fish together, in a sturdy ship in the deep blue sea
The skeleton women & me

Providence
Because you value misery more than joy, I am next to you
Looking for a soft spot a point of entry, I am next to you
Like amber fibers picking up lead, I am next to you
Like a family trial, like retro-vision, I am next to you
and when I find it, I will sink into you into me
I want providence, to be queen
Like an anchor, or a spoon. Like a nail or a truck
I want providence to be queen.
I don't want to drive the devil out; I don't want to lose the muse
I just want providence, to be queen of everything

Chance
Chance is calling to the sky, Chance is screaming at the wind
I look at the lines on the palm of my hands, compute the letters of the alphabet
We are traveling in uncertain times, playing with futures like we got nothing to lose.
Chance is calling to the sky, Chance is screaming at the wind
Denial is an invisible wall, doors swing open, doors slam shut
Structural problems, rock hard facts, need to plug in, to the source
Chance is calling to the sky, Chance is screaming at the wind
I search the stars for a guiding light, toss my faith in the I-Ching
Incantations & tarot cards. Got nothing to lose but fears, got nothing to lose but bad habits
Chance is calling out to the sky, Chance is screaming in the wind
Take another trip, another pull, another step into the impossible
sparkling lights & twinkling signs, shimmering bottles of everything fine

Ladybug
Ladybug red & black, round thing, fly this way
Ladybug, predator, sheathed wings, stay with me for awhile
Bring me joy, bring me luck, bring me prosperity, bring me sustainability
Bring me wisdom, bring me hope, bring me spirituality, bring me meaning & clarity
Bring me health, bring me energy, bring me riches internally, bring me strength & clarity
Lady, lady, lady, lady, bugga, bugga, bugga, bugga, lady, bugga, bugga, bugga, boo
Ladybug we are one like the stars & sun
Ladybug we are one like the leaves & trees
Ladybug, the sun is low, the sky is red, you say you have to go
Ladybug, fleeting flame, air dancer, come back another day

Joe Frank
Joe Frank in stereo moves through walls at the speed of sound.
Meet Joe Frank
He's a radio apostle, anti-hero of the air waves.
He'll take you on a trip, a surreal date, make you want to come - come back, Joe Frank
somewhere out there- in a dark metropolis, in the swishing breeze of the Caribbean, in the interior of an elevator
We dream, we wake , we love, we hate, we dream, we wake, we all make mistakes
Joe Frank in stereo moves through walls at the speed of sound
He's a modern day Ulysses traveling though the human disease
He's not as well known as Joe DiMaggio, doesn't play jazz guitar like Joe Pass,
no, he's Joe Frank

Love Crosses Islands
We are swimmers drifting in the tide
breast stroke, back stroke, forward crawl,
free style, for awhile, long & sleek, breathe deep,
cup your hands, point your feet, & be.... the sea
Life is a journey you can sink or swim
the middle is just as important as the end
Question what you know - be what you believe
the only way to love - is to find it in yourself
Love, crosses islands
We are submarines, looking through periscopes
We're underwater, we're under control, safe & smug in our spy subs
but what we really want, is to break out,
to surface from below, & make, contact

Not a Dog
A boat that leaks, a leaky boat is only as bad as it's captain
A woman who is born a witch, a born witch, is better than those who pretend
A man who loves logic who loves to be logical is worse than one who doubts
A dog is not a dog w/o teeth
A dog is not a frog, not a log, not a hog
Don't need a hatchet, a hatchet, to swat a fly
Concentration, elimination the topic of today is success
Fortune is like glass, like glass it shatters & it shines
A 1/2 truth, A 1/2 truth, is a whole lie

Driving w/David
Lost in the music on the radio
Don't know where we're going, until we get there
We were just outsiders looking though the glass.
A Mighty feeble effort is better than a crash test
Driving downtown in a green Dodge Dart,
vinyl bench seats, chrome dash board
Driving downtown, downtown with David,
he's got a Dodge Dart I've got a notebook
Some say the earth will die burning, some say it's all a charade,
some say we can overcome, some are just checked out
4th street, Hope street, old storefront windows, tags on brick walls
Down by the train tracks, near Little Tokyo.
We would stop & listen ....for the solo saxophone
Gorkys, & the Brave Dog, the Atomic Cafe,
the dry LA river & the bridges on Broadway
Clove cigarettes black canvas shoes ask the dust, ask yourself
We were just outsiders looking though the glass
A mighty feeble effort is better than a crash test
Driving downtown, downtown with David,
now he's got a pick up & I've got a BA
Looking for traces of where we used to be,
Driving downtown, downtown with David
We got miles & miles to go before we sleep

Big Fish
She was wearing silk overalls He was a project in a polyester shirt
She had eyes that could burn or melt. He had potato hands
He was a big fish in a sea of his own, she was drowning in impossibilities
It's funny how one thing leads to another. What she once loved became so hated
He was a magician in the art of persuasion, but she was tired of all of his tricks, because
His words spoke louder than deeds
He dreamed of a white world with yellow rain. She was open like a porcelain vase
There was a time when his hair still flowed, there was a reality that time didn't know, No
He was a big fish in a sea of his own

You Drive Faster
We stand squarely in this circle not always eye to eye
We try to move forward spinning a web of good intentions & bad directions
I drive fast, you drive faster
I look at the map, you ask for directions
I drive fast. You drive faster
I like the side roads, you like the highway
I drive fast. You drive faster
When we are speaking with conviction time & motion seem to disappear
In the blink of an eye we could fly off this path of least resistance
We are leaving the city, we're leaving the suburbs,
we're leaving the last gas station, in 27 miles
You reach out to me, I reach out, to you

The Smallest Jar of Honey
In the smallest jar of honey, lives the sweetest universe,
but you with your long blue shirt, couldn't possibly imagine,
what I have in my mind, it is broad & wide like a city street,
five full lanes of traffic. You live down on the east side, I live up near the Mesa
These things seldom if ever work out
For so many years I tried to hide, that I lost what was mine
For so long you ached to run, once you began, you left me behind
I only wanted a place to grow warm. You needed someone to reclaim
Sometimes I'm yellow sometimes I'm blue,
sometimes it changes moment to moment,
We loved the sunlight in July, & the sounds of dogs running free
These things seldom if ever work out...
